Bountiful Blessings Giving Closet

We are a small, community-centered grassroots movement, founded locally in The Dalles, Oregon. The volunteers are here to bless, to listen, to touch people's hearts, and to make our neighbors feel that they are cared about. BBGC is about neighbors helping neighbors, families helping families in need, and communities being there for one another throughout life's ups and downs.

Started by two friends and growing through our dedicated community members, we are helping fill a gap by offering goods to people at no cost. New parents, homeless, new home, limited finances....everyone is equal here.

Our Mission

Bountiful Blessings Giving Closet is dedicated to uplifting our local community by distributing no-cost goods, including clothing and household items, to anyone in need. We believe that everyone deserves access to comfort and essentials, and we strive to make a positive impact in the lives of those we serve.

Our Offerings

Clothing Donations

We collect gently used clothing to provide individuals and families with essential attire. Our clothing drives aim to ensure that every person has access to the garments they need, regardless of their financial situation. Not only do our clothing donations help those in need, it helps keep usable clothing out of landfills, helping the environment.

We have just about everything, from casual to suits, dress shirts to swimwear, nightwear, footwear, and accessories.

Household Goods

Alongside clothing, we also distribute household items such as kitchenware, bedding, and some small furniture. This support helps families create a stable, welcoming home environment and improves their overall quality of life. If someone comes in needing larger furniture pieces, we coordinate with Mid-Columbia Community Action Council to send our client to them as a referral. This helps our clients multi-fold, getting them in touch with other services in The Dalles if needed.

Community Events

In the future, we want to organize community events to raise awareness about our mission and foster connections. These events will promote kindness and can include clothing drives, workshops, food drives for the food banks, and family-focused gatherings designed to unite and inspire our community.

Upcoming Events

Due to some recent issues at the store, we will be enforcing a couple of new rules until further notice. We have received word that at least one customer has been taking items from our store and reselling them (especially the clothing). Please understand that the free items in our store are for those in NEED, not for resellers to take advantage of and profit from. We have a few signs up stating as such, but now there will be more signs, and if people try to take advantage of our community's generosity, than they will no longer be allowed in the store.

The new rules:

1) No large wagons, oversized bags, or boxes can be brought in. Boxes can be provided for breakable items, and count as one or two bags, depending on the size.

2) There is a 2 bag limit per customer (bags are provided) per . No exceptions. If you wish to use a regular size backpack (see photo), that counts as a bag.

September is suicide prevention awareness month, and the 10th is world suicide awareness day. We've all been touched, in some way, by someone who has taken that very final, irreversible step.

To those we've lost, we miss you, we remember you, and we'll never forget you. To those who are struggling, please know that there are people who do care. There is hope, resources, and friends who will listen for as long as you need.

To all of our neighbors and citizens who keep our communities running, we see you and we thank you for all the hard work that you do. We hope you had a safe, fun, relaxing Labor Day weekend.

We will be open tomorrow on Labor Day! Please excuse our changes, we're doing some rearranging and adding in a new section. We hope to see you tomorrow at 9am!

In the first photo you will see our new "Knick Knack Corner" where will have some special items for sale. Funds raised will go toward clothing racks, hangers, office suppliers, and other business expenses.

In the second photo, we've started rearranging our housewares section to be more easily accessible. We've also moved the small food section towards the along the wall (away from the heat from the windows).

Happy National Dog Day!

For many of us, our four-legged friends are as much family as our two-legged family. We would do anything to care for them, to keep them safe and well, and we love them, sometimes more than ourselves.

Autumn is starting to make his presence be known. The slight coolness in the air some mornings. The shortening of the daylight. The appearance of deer and geese.

We are all family members, related by the human race. Caring for each other is what we are called to do.

As we continue to grow and interact with the community, we are refining our hours to see what works best for the public at large. Our volunteer group has determined that moving donations to Saturdays and Sundays would make it easier on our volunteer staff, and make it more consistent for everyone else.

The weekday hours are, for now, Monday and Wednesday from 9am to 11am/Noon, as our volunteer feels able. These hours may change as the weather cools down and we get more volunteers to work the Giving Closet.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Lynn will have the Giving Closet open on Saturday from 9am to 1pm (family function after), and from 9am to 4pm on Sunday.

With the climbing summer temperatures, it is imperative that we watch out for our fellow neighbors. Bountiful Blessings Giving Closet has partnered with Mid-Columbia Community Action Council to become a pick-up location for their Cooling Bundle Bags. We only have three bags at this time, but you can help!

If you would like to help, please take a look at the 2nd graphic. Items can be taken to either MCCAC location in Hood River and The Dalles.
